Gushiken Takamatsu-san, a volunteer collecting the remains of war-dead in Okinawa, and his supporters officially met deputy Governor of Okinawa on March 26. They handed the 32,800 signatures collected since March 1 to demand not to use earth and sand in the South of Okinawa, which could contain the remains of the victims from the Battle of Okinawa, for the landfill reclamation at Henoko where the construction of a new US military is going on. Deputy Governor Teruya said that he understood the significance of the number of signatures collected during such a short period. He expressed deep respect for Gushiken-san, who appealed to the world by doing a hunger strike and risking his life and health. He pledged to do their best to rethink how to face the historical lesson of the Battle of Okinawa and realize the spirit of Chimgukuru, the Okinawan spirit of tenderness based on the philosophy that life is a treasure. Gushiken-san and his supporters plan to do another continuous rally f...

It's been a while since I stopped writing about Okinawa's struggle in English. I've been writing in Japanese, but not in English. Maybe, I felt powerless to inform for American people about what's going on in Okinawa and asking for more support. However, an unbelievable thing is going on here in Okinawa. As the title says that our Jap. government has expressed to use an earth which contains human remains to build the foundation of a US military base. Here is a petition for stopping  https://www.change.org/protectourancestorsfromusmilitary                                                  a jaw from remains.                                 Suddenly, opened an access road to mine.                              ...

picture of Miyako island's militarize plan 11 th February “The Symposium for thinking a peace & military bases at North East Asia” was held at Miyako island. 9 people from Korea visited this time. (Pyeongtaek & Jeju island) Pyeongtaek is where biggest U.S. Army base in the world exists. Jeju island where Korean government constructed new Navy base on 2016 at Gangjeong village despite of strong opposition movement. I’d like to tell you what I saw & I felt by coming Miyako island after one year of my last visiting. Last year of January, when I came, there were no buildings at the site of Chiyoda New Japanese Defense Force’s base. In one year, a dozen of barracks for soldiers were already built and a forest of community prayer site was cut down much smaller and ammunition depots, 700 tons fuel tanks are under construction. However, under the tanks, there is a soft ground which it may not be able to support ...

3 Reasons, why I Oppose U.S. New Base in Henoko

Image
Okinawa Prefectural Referendum for Henoko New Base will be held on 24 th Feb. 2019. The Referendum is about U.S. Marine’s Base construction. I have a strong desire that all Americans to get to know about OKINAWA’s issue. Here, I give 3 reasons why I oppose U.S. New Base in Henoko. NO1, I moved to Okinawa 5 years ago. I lived in Tokyo until 18 years old. I had never thought about U.S. Military Base issue of Okinawa. However, I traveled to Okinawa twice, when I was 12 and 18 years old. A purpose of travel was “Beach & Resort”. I didn’t have an any interest about U.S. Base issue and even a history of a battle of Okinawa during my travel. As I was a one of the majority Japanese who don’t think about Okinawa Issue. So, I know how much Japanese main landers don’t know & don't care about Okinawa. In schools, with friends, and even with a family, I had never discussed about Okinawa issue. Until I start to live in Okinawa, I...

Henoko Jan. 2019

Henoko USMC new base construction has facing a new stage. Jap. Gov. declared to start a landfill Henoko bay on 14th Dec. finally. It's been 22 years of struggle. In 2014, Sea walls construction had started. Sea walls are recoverable. However, this time fine gravels like soil will be dump into the bay. Then it is not likely recoverable. Since 2014, Previous and Present both govonors of Okinawa declared to stop Henoko U.S. new base. Of course that central government has big power to push the construction. Eventhough, the govenor also have power to stop construction. There are many regulation for construction to ask permission to the local government.                        Now, Government stareted land filling at smaller red sect. It will be finished in a few month. Then Gov. start bigger red sect. Blue section is deeper and floor is too soft. Technically difficult to improve the soil....

Thank you ... Governor Onaga. We will not forget your dedication to Okinawa. Okinawan governor Onaga past away on 8th Aug. He had a pancreas cancer. He was given surgery this April. If he gave up his job at that point, he 'd may be survived up to now. His responsibility was so much to Okinawa. He was an one of the most powerful gorveronor in Okinawan history. He was a member of Liberal Democratic Party(LDP) which is the biggest political party in Japan. Priminister Abe is the top of LDP. However, when Mr. Onaga saw how Japanese goverment treat Okinawa, He decided to leave from LDP. And Mr. Onaga ran for Okinawa governor and He was elected. What was a special about a governor Onaga is uniting Okinawan conservatives to stop U.S. military eapansion. U.S. mlitary issue in Okinawa was always devided conservative party and liberal party. However, Mr. Onaga joined the hands with liberals to stop new U.S. base expansion. He said, No More Ideology But Identity. He me...
